Tools Of The Trade
Any good vigil organizer needs to have the tools of the vigil trade. That's why we've made a few templates for your use, along with some suggestions on how to use them to make sure everyone in your community knows about your vigil.
Promoting Your Local Vigil
Before you get started, you'll want to make a list of all the local media outlets in the area. Call them first to ask for the name of the editor that handles news, not pets, so that you can email the editor or producer directly. You'll want to make sure to send news of your local My Dog Votes Candlelight Vigil to:
- Local Daily Newspapers
- Local Weekly Newspapers
- Local Community Guides
- Local Radio Stations
- Local Television Stations
- Local Cable Stations
- Local Internet Sites or Blogs
- Local College Newpapers & Radio Stations
- Local Indy or Alternative Media Outlets
Did we forget anyone?

Post-Vigil - Youl want to change the wording slightly to reflect the post-event coverage. Insert any information about attendance, and include why it made a difference in the local community for both people and animals. Oh- and don't forget to email them any of the great photos you took at the vigil so they can include them on their website or in the paper. Call each of your media contacts back and ask if they will provide post-vigil coverage!
