MY DOG VOTES™ ANNOUNCES 3rd ANNUAL WORLDWIDE CANDLELIGHT VIGIL AGAINST BREED BANS
New York, NY – August 1, 2007 – My Dog Votes™, the T-shirt company with a mission of Saving Dogs & Democracy™ has announced the 3rd Annual My Dog Votes™ Worldwide Candlelight Vigil Against Breed Bans and the launch of a new blog, www.LightACandleSaveALife.com
On Sunday evening, August 19th, 2007, dog lovers in over 250 locations around the world will unite to “Light A Candle, Save A Life” by holding a local vigil to stand up for innocent dogs and take a stand against breed bans, other forms of breed discrimination and anti-dog laws.
By lighting candles, vigil participants will help illuminate the flawed public policies and ignorance that punish good dogs and good owners, and memorialize the thousands of innocent dogs that are seized, killed, left homeless or dumped in shelters as a result.
The first My Dog Votes™ Worldwide Candlelight Vigil Against Breed Bans, started by the company founder and owner of a rescued pit bull, was held in August 2005 in solidarity with dog owners across Canada and U.S. to mark the breed bans enacted Ontario and Denver.
In 2006, the My Dog Votes™ Worldwide Candlelight Vigil Against Breed Bans expanded to nine cities in China, as dog lovers in Beijing, Shanghai, Gangzhou City, Wuhan City, Changsha City, Chengdu City, Qingdao City, Shanghai City and Foshan City joined the vigils to express grief over the mass killing of 50,000 innocent dogs.
Last month, the City of Dublin, Ireland banned 11 different breeds of dogs from public housing. Earlier this year in the U.K., police in Merseyside held a Turn-In-Your-Dog Amnesty program, sparking an international outcry. In the United States, over 75 different breeds of dogs have been banned or restricted, unbeknownst to many dog owners.
“It’s time to stop killing innocent dogs and tell the world to Punish The Deed, Not the Breed,” said My Dog Votes™ founder, B. Haywood. “ We need to focus on protecting the public health and safety with real solutions - educating the public on safety, prevention and promoting responsible ownership.”
The 3rd Annual My Dog Votes™ Worldwide Candlelight Vigil Against Breed Bans will bring together people from across the political and cultural spectrum to Light A Candle, Save A Life and show support for innocent dogs and their owners.
